Therefore, at Safe Families we offer support, hope and belonging to improve the lives of those in our communities. We link children, young people and families with local volunteers who can offer them help and support.

Your Family and Safe Families

We have a network of volunteers who give their time and skills to you and your family. The volunteers are people willing, without pay, to provide support and friendship to a family going through a tough time; just like a good friend, neighbour, or grandparent.

They have all had an enhanced police check to ensure they are safe to work with you and your family. We have also spoken to them, been to their homes, and given them training, so we know they will help you safely. Their home and family has been approved as a good and safe place for a child to be.

Safe Families Western Isles accept referrals from families who have a child/children ages 3-15. There are no limits on who can refer, and we also accept self-referrals. Referral agencies can include Schools, GP’s, Health Visitors, Mental Health, Social Work etc. To make a referral for someone or for yourself, please contact the team

How to Volunteer

1

Family Friend

Volunteers who come alongside parents/carers and/or children to support them to get back on their feet e.g. meeting a parent at their home to have a cup of tea and catch-up, taking a parent/guardian for a walk or helping with housework, taking a child to the play-park.

2

Host Families

Volunteers who are able to have children and young people stay overnight in their home for a short time e.g. Mum going into hospital overnight to have a baby and her children need cared for, or respite if parent/guardian overwhelmed.

3

Resource Friends

Volunteers who can provide items such as a cot/pram or appliance or provide skills such as gardening/painting/joinery and can provide these to help a family in need.

There is also the option to become a prayer partner or a financial contributor towards the work of Safe Families Western Isles locally which also goes towards the families we support.
