The Shed Cafe

What is the Shed Cafe? It is essentially a safe social space for people to have community with one another, people from the recovery community and the general public, where there is no judgement expectation or stigma, people can come as they are.  Our volunteers have experience and knowledge of recovery from drugs and alcohol whether it be their own journey or that of a family member.  Its purpose is to build people up by providing opportunity for support, learning new skills, reprising old ones and giving back to the community.

Shed Cafe's Founding Story

We opened on December 5th 2023, and it was really encouraging to see so many people attend, and to get the sense that the work of the Shed Cafe is wanted and needed in the community. Our launch saw members of ADP, NHS Western Isles, Police Scotland, CnES homeless service, local councillors and more, come together for an exclusive invite to the official opening of The Shed Cafe. Our special thanks to Gordon Jamieson for cutting the ribbon to officially open the Shed Cafe. The positive response from the local community and members of other services has stayed with us since opening with people commenting positively on the atmosphere in coming in, we have our regulars and have about 25 people coming through the doors each Tuesday and Thursday and this is growing.

Our staff and volunteers are amazing, since day one they have worked so well together with each person having their own role to fulfil. Their own feedback has been positive with one volunteer saying that they believe “it’s a good place for people to come to” “the staff and other volunteers are so supportive”.  It has provides our volunteers with a sense of purpose.

Business Manager

"It is an incredible privilege to manage the Community work of the Shed, and for us to serve our community by drawing alongside people, supporting them to navigate the challenges that life presents to us. We have an amazing staff team in all services, who show such care and compassion towards those that use our services, drawing from their own lived experience to help others. Hearing stories of positive change makes my role so rewarding."
